Lockpick prices.
Does anyone think it's unfair that players can buy lockpicks for 1.2k in alliance owned areas in Factions and sell them for 1.25k? I think this was meant as a reward for the players in that alliance not a "for profit" scheme. Read the forums, players are not happy with the lack of lockpick drops & the
crap they are getting. Many of us don't like spending so much time & money on the TH & Lucky titles. I guess we can pass by the chests but why have them in the game if only a few players use them? Anet has suceeded in lowering the cost of weapons being sold by other players but there are still tweaks that can't be ignored. Actually, most players sell lockpicks from their alliance. They don't have to stand there spamming WTS! They just wait for a buyer & take 10 secs to make a run. 5k profit per 100 sold, 10 secs work? Most people selling Lockpicks for 1250g got them as drops, not from their Alliance-owned areas. Selling after the discount only nets them 50g per Lockpick sold, and it would be extremely slow.
They wouldn't waste their time. Anybody that does is surely an idiot. Not even laziness would be able to justify it, since it sure as heck would take a lot of patience to sell. |

The profit margin isn't all that large.
Considering its 12.5k per stack of lockpicks its not really worth it. |

Just go join an alliance owning a town and you can cash in on this "get rich quick scheme", and stop QQing about something so minor... *rolls eyes
They play damn hard to own the towns - I certainly don't put in effort to donate 10k or more faction a day - and if it provides them with discounted merchants, good game to them. Edit: No, I don't belong to a Guild or Alliance that owns a town, I just mentioned that I don't/wont put in the kind of effort and hours needed to belong to one. Maybe not very well put in the sentence I used. Last edited by Friday; Oct 27, 2007 at 11:25 AM // 11:25.. |

Game seems fair the way it is. Join a guild that controls a city if you want to take advantage of this and more+. Additionally, the perk of discounted items itself would be just as "unfair" as lockpicks since all the items can bought cheaper if they control a city. (No I am not in an alliance that controls a city and never have been). p.s. I have gotten all my lockpicks cheaper then 1250g too. Basically don't buy from these people if you don't want to encourage them to keep doing it.

People who find their lockpicks and sell them will usually sell cheaper then those buying them from an alliance merchant. I have bought about 450 picks or so from people using the alliance merchant and they did the job for only 20g profit per pick (*wooot!). I've easily bought small amounts of picks at 1k each from people as well and I am certain those people found them. |

It seriously isnt that hard to get into an town owning alliance im in one and our guild/alliance spams in ab outposts continually.
If you are that worried that u are getting ripped off put in the effort to get a guild that owns a town and buy em yourself. |

I am extremely glad about the whole setup. I am not in a guild that has access to one of those towns, but I work constantly on my treasure hunter title. I have a supplier that I assume is from one of those guilds that I always buy from for 1.25k/lp. This saves me 1k every time I buy four lps. I thought it was weird at first, but now that I see how much money I am saving I am glad it is set up the way it is and would be very very sad if it ever changed. BTW, I am pretty certain that my supplier is from one of those guilds because he has never not had the number of keys I have needed and I never see him online except for when he is selling. Anyway, I am a fan of the setup.

Again, replies miss the point
I am not worried about getting ripped off. I don't want to join a guild with this
privilege. I would like players to stop using an advantage like lower merchant prices to make money! I can't speak for Anet but I think this was meant as a reward for the alliance members not profit. Maybe drop more keys & picks or lower the price on the high ticket items for everyone. If lockpicks were not artificially inflated to 1250g they might sell for 1k or less. You only make 750g selling to merchant. Again 5k profit per 100 picks = 10 secs work. I did not call it a "get rich quick" scheme. |

I am in one of those alliances ... and the pathetic amount that could be made from reselling isn't worth the effort. We have about 1000 people between all the guilds .. I have yet to see anyone from the alliance actually selling lockpicks. You sir are making a mountain out of a mole hill. |

You call 50gp profit per pick "making money"?
Good grief - I make tons more "profit" just selling the white garbage drops I get from clearing out one map area! I will guarantee you, that unless you have a dedicated pick buyer who is going for the title, that you'll spend far more than "10 secs work" trying to sell 100 picks at 1250gp. And "A-net" sets the prices of the Lockpicks at the merchant - so send them a support ticket if you think the price is too high. Last edited by Friday; Oct 29, 2007 at 10:11 AM // 10:11.. |

Woot posted after Malice Black!
Anyways, does it affect you that much? You can go buy them for 1.5k instead if you really want. |

If u have ever been in a town owning alliance, you would know how much money the officers have to spend to keep their guild rooster at 80+, loads of ppl leave this guilds after 1-2 days and the guild have to pay 100gp per new invite. This might not seem much for a normal guild. But considering 15 ppl leave and they have to reinvite that amout of people on average every day their money has to come from somewhere. And the Officers nearly always are recruite or ab, so no time to farm

The people who have to farm all that faction to keep their Alliance in control of the outpost are welcome to my 50 gold pr. lockpick every day of the week
(I've bought several hundred lockpicks this way - and shall continue to do so!) |

Wow, people complain about everything. I had farmed up a total of 48 lockpicks, and sold them for 1k each (money? who cares!). Easy, 100% profit from something I'll never use anyway (chests are a joke, I'll never open anohter one as long as I play this game).

I'm very happy that there's a source of lockpicks that saves me 250g on every lockpick I buy! On 250 picks, they make 12.5K and I save 62.5K !
